When Bob from Vancouver is flying to Germany in the mid of August he put all his money into this trip - and he won't go to Heidelberg or Berlin, but solely to a small festival at the baltic sea: the Zappanale. What is it that makes him going there? What kind of "sickness" makes the aficionados of progressive rock music from all over the world do a pilgrimage to Bad Doberan?

The exhibition is reflecting 20 years of Zappanale and one part is giving information especially about 'Zappa and the GDR'.
Those of you who experienced the GDR will recognize a lot, all others will get a better understanding.
» Auftakt in Hamburg
In der Veranstaltungsreihe „Zappa spielt für Bach“ tritt am 10. August das „Ensemble Ambrosius“ aus Helsinki/Finnland zusammen mit dem Ex-Zappa Leadsänger Napoleon Murphy Brock in der Hamburger Hauptkirche St. Katharinen auf. Der Konzertbeginn ist um 20.00 Uhr. Für kühle Getränke ist gesorgt und auch eine Zappa-Bach-Brezel ist wieder im Angebot.
Der NDR wird das Konzert mitschneiden, wie auch bereits in den vergangenen Jahren, als 2008 Bogus Pomp und 2009 Sheik Yerbouti spielten. Auch diese beiden Bands standen zusammen mit dem Grammy-Preisträger Napolen Murphy Brock auf der Bühne. Von diesen beiden Konzerten ist jeweils eine Benefiz-CD "Zappa spielt für Bach" erschienen, die für 10,- entweder bei der Stiftung SJS oder per Mail bei This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Released at Zappanale 21: The new book from Andrew Greenaway
In 1988, Frank Zappa toured with a twelve-piece band that had rehearsed for months, learned a repertoire of over 100 songs and played an entirely different set each night. It is why, in Zappa's own words, it was "the best band you never heard in your life" - a reference to East Coast American audiences who never got the chance to see this particular touring ensemble due to the disharmony between Zappa's "clonemeister" Scott Thunes and nine of the other band members.
'Zappa The Hard Way' documents that last tour, which deteriorated as the tour progressed through America and on to Europe.

Nachdem der Rechtsstreit mit der Zappa-Witwe Gail Zappa nach Jahren endlich vor dem Oberlandesgericht Düsseldorf zugunsten des Trägervereins der „Zappanale“, der „Arf-Society e.V.“, ein Ende gefunden hat, kann sich dieser nun mit voller Kraft auf die Organisation und Durchführung der 21. Zappanale im mecklenburgischen Bad Doberan vom 10. bis 15. August, konzentrieren.
