» Zappanale #23 August 1 - 4, 2012 The Torture stops in 72 days ! 01./02./03./04. Festival Ground » Ya HoznaThe slovenian band Ya Hozna was founded in 2009, with the purpose of celebrating 70th anniversary of Frank Zappa's birth in 2010. It evolved from the core band JazzLessNess, but since then it took an autonomous way. Here is an interview with singer and guitarist Samo Turk.
Webcrew: Why Ya Hozna? Samo: „When choosing which songs to learn, someone proposed the obscure song Ya Hozna. The idea was dropped, but the song title sounded like a good band name.“ Webcrew: But why Zappa at all? Samo: „The 70th anniversary of Frank Zappa's birth seemed to be the suitable moment and the right reason for launching such project.“ Webcrew: That's the reason for another Zappa cover band? Aren't there already enough of them? Samo: „The not so new era with many tribute bands existing is a reason against forming such a band, rather than favouring it. But since Zappa's music is unique, a tribute band of his music should also be considered as such and incomparable to other cover bands..“ Webcrew: How did your band develope since foundation? Samo: „Since foundation the band experienced some personnel changes and walked into its fourth year. They performed several events across Slovenia, and are due to play live in a Slovenian national TV show in January 2012.“ Webcrew: Can you tell us the line-up for Zappanale #23?
