In 1989 bassist and singer Bent Sæther, singer and guitarist Snah (Hans Magnus Ryan)and drummer Killer (Kjell Runar Jenssen) founded the norwegian rock band Motorpsycho in Trondheim. The name traces back to a movie of american director Russ Meyer. It was in autumn in 1989 when the three have seen 'Motorpsycho' written on the wall of a grubby cinema in London. That's the title of a trilogy of Russ Meyer which was shown there. The other two titles were already used by other bands: 'Faster Pussycat Kill Kill' and 'Mudhoney'. And so they thought: Let's call ourselves Motorpsycho. We'll never be as bad as Faster Pussycat, but we might be as good as Mudhoney someday. In 1991 they recorded their first album. Although right from the beginning eerybody agreed that this band was playing real heay metal this record also contained first evidence of progressive rock music and some experimental stuff. During the years band members changed, musicians came and went for recording and concerts. The fans either loved it, took a break or went away. But the principle of the band is working. Up to now they won't fulfill the expectances of the audience. Partly new records are published on vinyl, some contain short tracks ( Let Them Eat Cake or Black Hole/Blank Canvas), while others show titles of epical length (Trust Us or Little Lucid Moments). The musical width lasts from adamant rock to progressive rock suits and then again from country rock to jazz. A review to their 19th album Roadwork Vol. 4 - Intrepid Skronk (six tracks, nearly 80 minutes) states: When it has faded away like the thunderous applause, the oucome is disappointment regarding two point: 1. The album is really at its end, and 2. The next Motorpsycho album is not available yet. We're hoping that this is the way you are feeling after their concert at Zappanale #23. Get excited about wild improvisations, jam sessions, bombastic sound and space rock! http://www.myspace.com/motorpsychopage pictures: Hans H. Bjørstads - http://roktokan.wordpress.com/
