Panzerpappa play Progressive Rock with humorous interludes (Progressive Rock with a friendly face, as they call it). Theia were influenced by the work of, for example, Samlah Mammas Manna, King Crimson, Henry Cow, Univers Zero, Happy The Man and last but not least Frank Zappa.
Panzerpappa emerged in 1996 when Trond Gjellum began to do demo recordings under this name. During the next few years he gathered additional players around him who first performed in 1999 under the name Panzerpappa. In the new millennium the group released two CD-Rs (“...passer gullfisk”, 2000 and “Hulemysteriet”, 2002), before the debut album of the Norwegians appeared in 2004 (“Farlig Vandring”). In the autumn of 2006 a new studio album appeared, on which Richard Sinclair (Caravan, Hatfield and the North) can be heard as a guest (“Korallrevens Klagesang”). After a long break the group presented their third album “Astromalist” in 2012.
Panzerpappa provide an instrumental soundscape that does not ask too much the harmony addicted, but still demands full attention. They will not make it too simple for us, but isn’t it precisely for these sound experiences that you come to Zappatown?
Steinar Børve (saxophones, keyboards)
Trond Gjellum (drums, percussion, samplers and several other instruments and sounds)
Anders Krabberød (bass guitars, Chapman Stick, ekstra keyboards)
Jarle Storløkken (guitars, keyboards, accordion)
And if the guitarist should ring a bell in someone’s memory... That’s right! Jarle Storløkken already was at Zappanale #23 with Dead Dino Storage.
